Honda Finally Built a V-8 Engine

Honda has recently introduced its initial production of a V8 engine, marking a huge milestone for the company. The purpose of designing a V8 engine is not for sports cars, but for different unique applications. The engine was particularly designed with an eight cylinder outboard motor called BF350 to power 25-plus foot boats. The Honda packs with V-8 technology which includes BLAST mode which provides improved acceleration by making the air-fuel ratio higher and increasing the ignition timing to enhance the torque output. The throttle-by-wire system enables cruise control that holds speed irrespective of sea conditions.

Addressing Honda Marine, the Honda V-8 we’ve all been waiting for. Honda ensures that it’s the company’s “first-ever assembly V-8 engine for usage on either land or water.” The best feature of the V-8 engine is the 302-cu-in 5.0 litre Honda BF350 outboard is a four-stroke, SOHC 32-valve engine that generates 350 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. The overall weight is 765 pounds in its lightest configuration.  

The V-8 engine is packed with Honda’s latest and greatest engine technology which includes Intelligent Shift and Throttle drive-by wire arrangement, VTEC technology, BLAST system, and crankshaft, similar to the Acura NSX. It has optimised fuel efficiency.

Honda has popularly been known for its small sized engines and hybrid technology, so the development of a V-8 engine denotes a deviation from their usual offerings.
